Sir Alex Ferguson Says He's 'Too Old' To Retire

Herald Sun

Sir Alex Ferguson maintains he's "too old" to retire as a younger man would and said he would have nothing to do but for football.

The Manchester United manager, answering speculation the club was preparing for his retirement, revealed he has left it up to his family to decide when he stops working.

He also said that Wayne Rooney deserved to be forgiven over his statements saying the club had a limited future, made before he suddenly re-signed with Man U last month.

Sir Alex said a person should not be criticised if they are willing to apologise, as Rooney had.

He again said it was footballers' managers who had to answer for some of the problem in the game.

Sir Alex turns 69 next month but has no plans to relinquish the post at Old Trafford which he has held since 1986.

"Retirement is for young people," Ferguson said. "I'm too old to retire. I would have nothing to do.

"As long as my health is good I will carry on. My family will make this decision."

Sir Alex Ferguson was a guest at the inaugural Aspire4Sport conference in Qatar.
